Privacy Policy

GearScouter (gearscouter.app) is operated by Tonal Domination Studio, LLC. GearScouter searches public listings across Reverb, eBay, ShopGoodwill, Etsy, and other musical instrument and recording gear marketplaces, and lets you track auctions, save searches, and — if you choose to link a marketplace account — place bids or offers.

Searching GearScouter requires no account and collects nothing about you personally.

If you create an account, we collect:

• Account information: your email address, a display name if you choose to set one, and your password — stored only as a salted cryptographic hash (scrypt), never in plain text.
• Payment confirmation: account creation requires a one-time payment, processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details — only a record that payment was confirmed and Stripe's own reference IDs for it.
• Linked marketplace accounts: if you link a Reverb or eBay account (entirely optional, only needed to bid or make offers), we store the OAuth access/refresh tokens those marketplaces issue — encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) — and basic identifying info they return (such as your marketplace username). We never see or store your marketplace password.
• Your activity in the app: watchlists, saved searches, and the alerts generated from them.
• Cached listing data: public listing information (titles, prices, images, links) from the marketplaces we search, so results can be shown and price/ending alerts can be tracked. This is public marketplace data, not personal data about you.
• Basic technical data: your IP address is used to secure your login session (recorded against that session) and, for the Craigslist handoff link, to suggest your nearest major metro area — this lookup happens per-request and is not separately stored.

• To operate your account, session, and the features you use (watchlists, saved searches, alerts).
• To run bids or offers you explicitly submit through a linked marketplace account.
• To detect and prevent abuse of the service.
• To meet legal and marketplace-partner obligations — see the eBay section below.

We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising or ad-tracking on GearScouter.

GearScouter shares information with the following third parties only as needed to provide the service:

• Reverb, eBay, ShopGoodwill, and Etsy — to search their public listings, and, only if you link your own account, to place bids/offers on your behalf via their official OAuth APIs.
• Stripe — to process the one-time account-creation payment.

Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace do not offer a public API, so GearScouter never queries them automatically — it only hands you a prefilled search link that opens in your own browser session.

If you link an eBay account, GearScouter complies with eBay's Marketplace Account Deletion/Closure Notification requirements: if you close your eBay account, eBay notifies us and we delete the linked connection (your stored eBay OAuth tokens) and any order records placed through it. This does not delete your GearScouter account itself, or listings cached from other sellers' public eBay activity.

Passwords are hashed with scrypt, never stored or logged in plain text. Linked-marketplace OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. All traffic to GearScouter is served over HTTPS.

• You can unlink a marketplace account at any time from Connections.
• You can delete individual watchlist items, saved searches, and alerts at any time.
• To delete your account entirely, contact us at tonaldominationstudio@gmail.com.

GearScouter is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
